REVIEW: Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe is Fun for All Ages
Phineas and Ferb are back in an all new adventure, Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe. In the brand new movie, we find Candace (voiced by Ashley Tisdale) down on her luck. After years attempting to prove to her Mom that her brothers are up to no good, she has finally given up. She begins to believe that the universe is against her. But after she is abducted by aliens, Candace begins to believe that the universe may not actually be against her. However, not everything is as it seems with these aliens and it is up to Candace’s brothers and their friends to save Candace before it is too late.
Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe is an enjoyable time for new and old fans of the series. The original music created for the movie is catchy and is probably the best parts of the movie. Danny Jacobs, the composer for the TV show, returned to compose the music for this movie and once again creates a soundtrack that helps propel the story along. My particular favorite was “Adulting” by Dr. Doofenshmirtz and Isabella Garcia-Shapiro (voiced by Alyson Stoner). The song plus the scene that went along with it were probably one of my favorites in the movie.
I also really enjoyed that Dr. Doofenshmirtz (voiced by Dan Povenmire) got to join the kids on their journey to save Candace. A lot of the TV show focused on keeping the kids’ storyline and Dr. Doofenshmirtz and Perry’s (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) storyline separate until the very end of the episode, but the Doctor was involved from the start in this movie. It created a fun dynamic that wasn’t always explored in the TV series.
Tisdale’s Candace was the clear star of this movie, something that was not always true in the TV series, which makes sense because it was Phineas and Ferb’s show. This time though, Candace got to have her own adventure. She didn’t spend the entire time trying to foil her brothers’ plan, but got to ultimately partake in the plan. It was nice to see her taking a lead role and getting to hear Tisdale sing. I have always loved Tisdale’s voice, so this was icing on the cake for me.
Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe should definitely be checked out this weekend. Premiering on Disney+, no matter the age everyone is going to find something they enjoy about the movie. Hopefully, this will be the first of many movies they do for Disney+ that are based in the world of Phineas and Ferb.
