Xochitl Gomez Covers Beautiful Blood Magazine
Xochitl Gomez is on the cover of Beautiful Blood magazine. The Baby-Sitters Club star is on the cover of the magazine’s Special 9 issue.
In the issue, Gomez talks how she figured out acting is what she wanted to do, representation onscreen, actresses she wants to work with, important messages for fans, and so much more. Highlights can be found below.
On representation onscreen: “I can’t tell you how important it is that a Latina character & her family is represented in the series (The Baby-Sitters Club), because growing up, I never really saw anyone that looked like me that was on a popular TV show. It makes a very long impact on how valued you feel as a person. We did have Wizards of Waverly Place but again, that could only last for so long. In the past, there have been a few series that include Latinas, but it wasn’t really enough. I feel like it makes us feel invisible in the mainstream culture and makes us seem uninteresting which is totally not the case at all. People believe what they see on screen and so not seeing us there makes it hard to believe that we’re important.”
On her message for fans: “I hope that people can take away some basic ideas from the series, as women and girls have interesting narratives and audiences want to see them and that friendship wins the day. Our power comes from joining forces together not tearing each other down. The topics in the show aren’t new to kids but maybe it’s the first time they’ve seen a show write them in and that’s why it’s so important. Once you see it on the screen, you truly believe it. By talking about these things and bringing it into a TV conversation, it opens a path and that invites acceptance amongst others to have those discussions”.
