REVIEW: “2 Hearts” Doesn’t Really Connect
Miracles can happen when you least expect it. And, these miracles can lead to connections between people that will last for generations. Entertainment Studios’ new movie, 2 Hearts focuses on the idea of how one miracle can bring together people from different decades and different places.
Based on a true story, 2 Hearts follows two different couples who end up being connected in the most miraculous way. The first couple, Jorge (Adan Canto) and Leslie (Radha Mitchell), meet while Jorge is on a business trip to the United States. Leslie is the flight attendant on his plane and the two immediately form a connection. As they try and make their relationship last, a number of obstacles are placed in their paths. The second couple, Chris (Jacob Elordi) and Sam (Tiera Skovbye), are college students who have their whole lives in front of them. Chris immediately falls for Sam after running into her as he is leaving class and the rest is history. The two have their whole lives in front of them, but nothing is ever as it seems.
The movie at first seems extremely predictable. It feels like this movie’s story had been played out before in a number of other movies. But about halfway through, a twist is thrown into storyline. One I was not prepared for and one that I much appreciated. It made the movie a little bit more interesting and a little less predictable. Director Lance Hool does a nice job of making you believe one thing is going to happen to only change it up. However, even with this twist, the story telling is a little clumsy. You don’t really feel a connection between the couple until the every end, which will leave you questioning how these two stories are connected the entire length of the movie.
Elordi is enjoyable as the lovestruck Chris. Some will not be able to help but be lovestruck watching him, while some will think he is acting like a lovesick puppy. Though, for me, his performance with Skobye is dream worthy and will make you wish you had someone falling over their heels for you like Chris is for Sam. Canto and Mitchell are also work well alongside one another. But, there story feels a little less real.
This movie may be an emotional rollercoaster ride and it may be an inspirational one for others. In no way is it the best movie you will see this year, but it is definitely not the worst. If you are going to watch it, make sure you have tissues and something happy planned for after.
