Marsai Martin is on the cover of ESSENCE magazine’s first ever Girls United issue. The young actress is on the cover to promote the new season of her hit show, Black-ish. Highlights from her interview are below.

On not fearing pitching ideas to the studio reps: “I really didn’t think of it as a nerve-wracking thing. Math equations scare me a lot more than public speaking.”

On how she got to where she is today: “I’m always myself. I’m in the space I’m in right now because I was just always unapologetically myself.”
