REVIEW: “Once Upon a Snowman” Will Leave You Wanting More Olaf

Fans are finally getting their first look at the few moments of Frozen fan favorite, Olaf’s life in the new short film, Once Upon a Snowman. Streaming exclusively on Disney+, the short film follows the Snowman as he figures out his identity after being created by Elsa in the first movie in the Frozen series.

Josh Gad returns to voice the loveable creature in the short film and knocks it out of the park. Like Frozen and Frozen 2, Gad has no problem creating emotion when he voices this character. Kids will go just as crazy for him in this film as they have at the other two, while adults will be smiling the entire way through. Hopefully, this won’t be the last time we get to hear Gad voice this character because he is fantastic at it.

The only negative of this film is that it isn’t long enough. I felt there was more story to tell when it came to Olaf’s origins, but I understand why Directors, Trent Correy and Dan Abraham, wanted to keep it short and sweet. Though, I do believe that there is so much more of his story to tell. It will be interesting to see if somewhere down the road we get a standalone Olaf movie. Normally, I am not a huge fan of standalone animated character movies, but I think with the right team and with Gad on board, it could be a huge hit. And, if this film is any indication, the character has no problem carrying a film on his own.

I definitely recommend taking 10 minutes out of your day to watch this short film. I will warn you, you will have “Let It Go” stuck in your head after it is over, but it will be well worth it.
