REVIEW: Hulu’s “Animaniacs” is a Great Blast from the Past, Worth Checking Out
It’s time for Animaniacs! Today, November 20, Yakko, Wakko and Dot return for new adventures on Hulu and it feels like no time has passed since we last saw the Warner siblings on our television screen. Hulu’s Animaniacs feels less like a reboot and more like a continuation of the original series. The original trio may have an updated look to them, but the stories are still just as good as they were in 1993.
Rob Paulsen, Jess Harnell, and Tress MacNeille return as Wakko, Yakko, and Dot and are just as zany as ever. For many fans of the original cartoon, hearing Paulsen, Harnell and MacNeille reprise their iconic characters will bring back so many fond memories of sitting in front of the TV. As for newcomer, theys will have no problem falling under their spell much like their predecessors. In addition to Wakko, Paulsen returns to voice his other fan favorite character, Pinky while Maurice LaMarche returns as Brain. The nice thing about these two characters is that even after all these years they are still only after one thing, trying to take over the world, and that’s OK because who would want anything else from these rodents. Or it may be because Paulsen and LaMarche are so good as Pinky and the Brain, but, whatever it is, every segment featuring the two feels fresh.
One of the greatest things about the original Animaniacs was the writers ability to keep it a kid’s show, while at the same time making it entertaining for adults. That ability is not lost in the Hulu series. The writers easily hide the adult content within the childish hijinks which leads to a lot of fun for all.
Fans of the original series will love the new series. It will feel like you are stepping back in time as you sit down to watch the new cartoons. Newcomers to the Animaniacs family, will be welcomed with open arms. The show has just a little bit of everything in it that it will be hard to not find the series entertaining. And, those are the facts.
