EXCLUSIVE: Katherine McNamara Opens Up About Playing Amy in “Trust”
Katherine McNamara is gearing up to release her new movie, Trust this coming Friday, March 12. The star reunites with her Shadowhunters costar, Matthew Daddario, for this twisted tale that also stars Victoria Justice and Lucien Laviscount.
To celebrate the release of the movie, we sat down with McNamara to talk her character, Amy, what drew her to the role, and so much more. You can check out our interview below.
Let’s talk what drew you to this movie?
“I really fell in love with the story itself with all of these characters. You look at this situation and it looks very black and white, and all of the characters look very black and white, particularly Amy. Some might say she has a more devious first impression, as it were, or duplicitous perhaps, but as the story unfolds, you really get to see that there are more facets to each and every one of these people. Everyone has a hand in the fault, but no one is fully at fault, and so it really explores modern relationships in that way.”
Did you have input on crafting Amy?
“It’s based on play, so the characters were very well developed coming into it. But what was lovely, as we mentioned with Brian [DeCubellis], and working with this great group of actors, is we really got to play and we had the time and the freedom to try different things. There’s various different iterations of this story that plays out, and being able to play with different perspectives therein was actually a lot of fun, and so creative.”

How would you descibe Amy’s wardrobe?
“Fun. See that’s what’s so great, is that each of the characters really came through in their wardrobe. That’s something I love about these characters. With Amy, we have a lot of fun with the juxtaposition, when she’s the student, when she’s gathering the Intel information, she’s just fully business, versus when she’s on. She is using every tool at her disposal to accomplish that”/
What would you say was your biggest obstacle filming this movie?
“I remember we have this scene on the motorcycle, Lucian [Laviscount] and I, those were one of the last things we shot. It was freezing rain, and we were trying to figure it out, this getting in and out [of the shot], because they wouldn’t let us ride it, it was a whole thing with the motorcycle. Just a cowboys switch the middle of a take. The rain compounded everything, but we got through it and that’s the magic of the movie.”
