EXCLUSIVE: Debi Mazar Talks Maggie & the Final Season of Younger

Debi Mazar has been a major staple on Younger since 2015 and her Maggie Amato has been one of my favorite part of the series. With the final season premiere taking place today, April 15, Mazar opened up about saying goodbye to the Paramount+ show.

What can fans expect in this final season?
“I think an arc for every character. Each character has a particular arc and it’s really flushed out where there’re highs and lows, drama, comedy, tears, happiness. It really kind of surprised us all the way the writers took us on this complete journey, where we actually all got to do things we didn’t expect to do.”

What will you miss most about the show?
“I think I’ll miss Maggie’s freedom. Being a married woman, I don’t get to have the freedom Maggie has in terms of being somebody that is afraid of commitments. Gets to have new lovers all the time, and travels, and different people coming in and out of her life, I’ll miss that. I’ll also miss the wardrobe. I loved Maggie’s clothes and Jackie Demeterio dressed me so beautifully. And, I will miss the inspirations that Jackie put me into because I actually incorporated a lot of those looks into my personal life.”

Why do you think Younger is so beloved?
“I think what’s beloved about Younger, being a show on air that was a sleeper hit, is people found it randomly through friends or whatever. It’s a show that has a lot of life to it. It’s a positive show. It’s fluffy. It doesn’t drag you down. It’s a happy show. It’s good energy. During the pandemic especially, people really love to watch it because it’s just up. We don’t focus on COVID. We don’t focus on negativity. It’s just happy, fun, fashion, people, relationships, love, age discussions, normal discussions of life, but on a positive note. A real sit-com, a feel good sitcom.”

Who is your favorite character, besides Maggie?
“My favorite other character I would say has to be Lauren. Why, because Lauren has grown on the show. She came in with this little fast talking, borderline annoying, character to becoming this intellectual, sophisticated, beautiful, powerful woman. She’s like a hummingbird with stems, beautiful legs. Costumes they put her in are like you gag when you see her. She’s grown into this powerful woman in a way that I want to see my teenage daughters transition to. You go from seeing somebody really young and unpolished, which is fine, to becoming someone that really is smart, intelligent, and it is a boss bitch.”
