EXCLUSIVE: Sutton Foster Talks the Final Season of Younger
For the past seven seasons, Sutton Foster has graced our screens as Liza in Younger. Yesterday, April 15, the star said goodbye to her character and the show as the final season premiered on Paramount+.
To celebrate the momentous day, Foster talked what she will miss most about playing Liza, shooting in New York City, her favorite character aside from Liza, and so much more. Check out what she had to say below.
What can fans expect from the final season?
“Fans can expect to see all sorts of twists and turns, romance, some major awesome work moments, victories, some failures. And I think in the end, hopefully fans will feel satisfied. I know I do. I feel satisfied, but hopefully the fans will, as well. That the writers give Younger a beautiful end.”
What will you miss most about Liza and the show?
“I think I will miss Liza’s hopeful, optimistic, spirit. She’s been so fun to inhabit and I will miss the whole universe of Younger. I will miss all these characters, all the women relationships, the camaraderie, how much love there is among the characters, but also off set. Because I think it goes both ways. I’ll just miss that, I know how rare it is. And we just had a really special group of people, a really special cast assembled, and I will miss everybody so much. We had so much fun. We just had such a good time. And there was no drama. All the drama was saved for the scripts. There was no drama loss off set. It was just a really positive, wonderful, lucky place to be.”

Why do you think people loved this show so much?
“Because it is such a optimistic, hopeful show. It has characters who, I think, support and love one another. And, yes, it is a Rom Com and, yes, there are these wonderful romances. And we have the Team Josh and the Team Charles, and the love triangles. But I really feel like it’s the female friendships and the multi-generational friendships, too. It really resonates with people. And it’s like you can escape into this wonderful world where it isn’t a cynical show. It’s lighthearted and good-natured. And I think people like that, or respond to that.”
What is your favorite character aside from Liza?
“I love Maggie. But I think it’s also because I like Debi Mazar so much. But I love Maggie because she’s just like… I don’t know. She’s true. She always tells it like it is. And she’s Liza’s home base. She’s like home. And I feel that way about Debi, too, but I don’t know. I love Maggie, and I love Debi. So, yeah. If I could play any other character, I’d want to be Maggie.”
Will you miss shooting in New York City?
“New York City was really like a character in Younger. One of the coolest things were all the different locations that we got to shoot. Rooftops and amazing apartment buildings with unbelievable views. And I immediately go back to this. We shot the millennial launch party, which I think was in Season Two. It was somewhere on the river and it was this beautiful night. And we watched the skyline change as we were shooting it because we were shooting all night. That was probably one of my favorite locations. It was so beautiful and just magical to be able to see the city from that vantage point. We just got to see so many different places in the city, all over. Brooklyn and Queens and on Long Island, and everywhere. Even Staten Island. It was very, very cool.”
