Advance Review: Laughter Is What Monsters At Work Is After In New Disney+ Show

Your favorite PIXAR monsters have returned for even more comical adventures. This time the team is headed to the small screen with a brand-new series, Monsters At Work, debuting on Disney+.

Monsters At Work sees Tyler Tuskman, voiced by Ben Feldman, a recent graduate of Monster University, hired as the newest Scarer for Monsters Inc. However, after Sully (voiced again by John Goodman) and Mike (voiced again by Billy Crystal) put an end to scaring children as a way to power Monstropolis, “Scarers” are no longer necessary. Tuskman is temporarily placed with the Monsters, Incorporated Facilities Team (M.I.F.T.) where he meets a ragtag group of monsters. These monsters are more than happy to have him join the team, but Tuskman is not and the more he refuses to accept his new position, the more the hijinks ensure.

Long time animation writer, Bart Jennett takes the helm on the first two episodes of the series while Bobs Gannaway, creator of Monsters Inc. and Monsters University, returns as executive producer. The pair does a wonderful job of building the new story while also showcasing a good balance between setting up the M.I.F.T. team and continuing Sully and Mike’s story at Monsters Inc. Both children and adults will find the tale just as engaging as its predecessors.

John Goodman and Billy Crystal are every bit as good as they have been when it comes to voicing Sully and Mike. However, it’s the newcomers that really take the cake. Feldman as Tylor Tuskman brings a sense of joy to the character while Mindy Kaling as Val Little, Tylor’s co-worker and forced upon best friend, is a welcome addition to the universe. Henry Winkler, Lucas Neff, and Alanna Ubach round out the cast of misfit monsters and each one of them brings something different and fun to the table.

Monsters At Work is delightfully fun for all. Fans of the previous movies will enjoy the stroll down memory lane while newcomers will love the newest monsters to join the work family. The only disappointment is that fans will have to wait a week for a new episode.
