EXCLUSIVE: Jonah Hill Talks Don’t Look Up, his Friendship with Leonardo DiCaprio & So Much More

Don’t Look Up hits select theaters tomorrow, December 10, and, to get you excited for its release, we chatted with one of the stars of the movie, Jonah Hill. Hill plays United States Chief of Staff, Jason Orleans, who also happens to be the son of Meryl Streep’s President Orleans.

During the chat, Jonah talked what he learn from his cast mates, working with one of his closest friends, Leonardo DiCaprio, Director Adam McKay, and so much more. Check out what he said below.

On what he learned from his cast mates cast: “Honestly, I’ve been friends with Leo [DiCaprio] for a long time. I’ve always had mad respect for how much he puts his money and time where his mouth is in regards to this issue. So not only as a friend, but someone who just is out there talking a big game, but actually walks the walk is-I respect really heavy. And also, everyone was so bummed the past two years, so when I got in a room with all these people that are geniuses, some of whom are friends of mine, some of whom I didn’t know, but all of whom I respect. It was just amazing to laugh and think and create something in a time where everyone’s been stuck in their houses. It was really emotionally meaningful to me.”

On working with friend, Leonardo DiCaprio: “I’ve worked with now pretty much all the best actors in the world. There’s been no more loyal friend or anything I’ve ever made in show business. What you see when they yell action and what he does, truly-no disrespect to anyone, nothing I’ve ever seen like it. He’s the best person. Shuffle that all aside, if I didn’t know him and I had to be like who’s the best actor, to me, I’d choose him every time.”

You can read the rest of the chat under the jump! The movie will also hit Netflix on December 24. Will you be seeing Don’t Look Up in theaters tomorrow?

On the scenes that made him most uncomfortable: “[Director] Adam McKay walked the craziest tight rope in this movie, which I think is almost impossible and he pulled it off. He took things that are terrifying and used comedy to make them digestible in some way or palatable in some way or entertaining in some way. I found the whole movie to just be like the truth, terrifying and hilarious. When the pop stars are on the show while the scientists are talking about the world ending and they’re the same weight, there is not one being more important than the other, it’s all the same and we’re all guilty of it too. I think there’s something deeply human that he tapped in to. ”

On what he would do if it was his last day on earth: “I think I would tweet and make sure that people knew the cool thoughts that I had to say and just opinions on different stuff like movies and how stars live their lives and what they look like and who they are dating and stuff. I think people in their last moments would wanna read that. I mean, in all honesty, it goes without saying for me, surfing, girlfriend, dog, family, love, all that matters. And I
also wanna give Jen Lawrence props because she’s my friend.
Sometimes I don’t say how amazing and brilliant it was to
watch her work.
