REVIEW: The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window’s Title is the Most Gripping Part of This Series
Described as a dark comedy thriller, The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window finds Anna (Kristen Bell), a woman who suffered a terrible tragedy spending every day doing the same thing day in and day out, staring out her living room window. It isn’t until a handsome new neighbor moves in across the street that things begin to change for Anna, including potentially witnessing a gruesome murder.
What could of been a really interesting show turned out to be a complete let down. There was nothing funny nor thrilling about this show. Created by Rachel Ramras, Hugh Davidson, and Larry Dorf, this show makes absolutely no sense and was completely outlandish, to the point that anything remotely comedic does not come off as laughable out all. From a choppy storyline to boring characters, there is nothing that draws you in or keeps you wanting to come back for more. Instead of focusing on the mysterious unfolding or creating funny moments, Ramras, Davidson, and Dorf spend the first few episodes trying to persuade the audience to not believe Anna and set her up as some crazy drunk. With the short episode format, this decision to not include any of the semi-interesting stuff will most likely lead to the viewers to turning off the show.
Bell does an alright job as Anna, but even she can’t save this series. There is nothing likeable about her character nor anything exciting about her. For an actress who thrives in the comedic genre, this show does nothing to show off her comedic chops. Tom Riley stars alongside Bell as Neil, Anna’s gorgeous neighbor, and ends up just becoming a handsome plot piece. There is nothing about his character that draws the audience to him.
Mary Holland plays Anna’s friend, Sloane and is the best part of the series. She doesn’t play a major character in the series, but she seems to be the only one with sense. Plus, Holland does an excellent job using the material given to her to bring her character to life.
The only nice thing about this series is the episodes are short. If you insist on finishing this series, at least it won’t take you forever to do it. But, I highly recommend passing on this one. There are other more thrilling shows that you can watch, especially if you are a fan of Kristen Bell, And if you are looking, I highly recommend Bell’s Veronica Mars series.
Grade: D

I loved the series. Watched it all from start to finish in one Sunday. There was quite a bit of plot twists that keep you wondering until the very end. Don’t know why it received a D, I would give it an A.
I’m so glad you liked it! That is what I love so much about televisions and movies, everyone reacts to the film/show differently! If we all liked the same thing, life would be pretty boring.
