EXCLUSIVE: Gina Rodriguez Talks Jenny Slate and her New Movie, “I Want You Back”

Amazon Studios’ new rom-com, I Want You Back is now out on Prime Video. Starring Jenny Slate, Charlie Day, Scott Eastwood, and Gina Rodriguez, we got the chance to hear from Rodriguez about her new movie.

During the chat, Rodriguez talked working with Jenny Slate, tips for love and so much more. Check it out below.

On working with Jenny Slate: “She is the most bomb lead ever. She set the tone to make it such an incredible experience. She texted me before we started shooting the sweetest text and I was like, ‘Look at this woman go.’ She was like, ‘I cannot wait to work with you.’ She was so loving, so kind. I was like, ‘I’m going to take a note. This is what I’m going to do in the future.’ Because she just opened the door to make me feel so welcome.”

On whether her childhood bedroom is in away similar to her character’s: “I didn’t have any posters. I had glow in the dark stars on my ceiling. That was the max of my decoration. I would’ve had Salt-N-Pepa if my parents allowed me to tack things on my wall. and then I would’ve had obscure Latino artists like Olga Tañón. She’s an older, older singer who’s, she’s been around for a while and she’s just incredible. But I didn’t have anything super cool, so I was really excited to jump into that Nick Lachey bedroom.”

On any tips on love she learned from I Want You Back: “There is more than one person for everybody. And, happiness starts from within and then the person should contribute. You shouldn’t find your happiness in another person and there’s plenty of people out there.”

On her go-to karaoke song: “I’m a big ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ by Journey or going straight to Adele’s ‘Hello’.”

I Want You Back arrives on Prime Video on February 11.
