REVIEW: Greg Daniels Delivers with Upload Season 2
Upload Season 2 hits Prime Video today, March 11, and what a season it is for fans. The new season picks up with Nathan’s (Robbie Amell) girlfriend, Ingrid Kannerman (Allegra Edwards) uploading and living in Lake View. Nathan and Nora (Andy Allo) have gone their separate ways and Nathan must now adjust to having his girlfriend living with him in his virtual reality afterlife and the demands that come with her decision. Nora, on the other hand, has left Horizon and is living in a commune with her new boyfriend, Matte (Paulo Costanzo). However, during her time at the commune, Nora finds that her commune mates are actually LUDDS, an activist group that wants to take down companies like Horizon, and begins questioning what she is really doing at the commune. As the season progresses, we find Nora and Nathan re-delving into who really killed Nathan and the complications that come with their investigation.
Greg Daniels’ has another hit season under his belt. With only seven episodes this season, Daniels manages to balance the darker themes of this season with fun comedic moments and never misses a beat. There are no filler episodes featured, instead each episode helps dive more into the story and the show’s characters. The season also touches on some pretty tough, yet interesting topics including technology and the control it can have over people.
However, what I loved most about this season was characters that were considered minor parts in the first season took center stage this season. Zainab Johnson’s Aleesha and Kevin Bigley’s Luke were no longer just the funny friends who popped in and out but really contributed to the Season 2 story. The twos banter with each other provided for some really great comedic moments that I hope Daniels focuses on in the potential third season. It was also fun to watch Luke’s friendship with Nathan and Aleesha’s friendship with Nora grow over the course of this season. Another character that got more screen time this season was Edwards’ Ingrid. Edwards may have the best performance this season. Daniels and his team of writers manage to take a character who was extremely shallow and vain in the first season and peel back some of those layers in the second season. Yes, she remains shallow and vain in the second season, but the audience begins to understand why she is the way she is.
Upload Season 2 is a must watch for Upload fans. It has everything you loved from the first season plus so much more. Here’s hoping we get a third season because I can’t imagine having to say goodbye to these characters especially with how the season ending. Fans, if you thought the first season finale ending was a doozy, just wait for this one!
