Director Jon M. Chu Announces Wicked To Be Split In Two Films

It looks like Ariana Grande will be gracing us with a double dose of Wicked. Director of the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical and book of the same name by Gregory Maguire, Jon M . Chu, announced via Twitter today, April 26, that fans can expect the film to be split into two parts.

He stated, “Here’s what happened: As we prepared the production over the last year, it became impossible to wrestle the story of ‘Wicked’ into a single film without doing some real damage to it. As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years. We decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one ‘Wicked’ movie but two! With more space, we can tell the story of ‘Wicked’ as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys for these beloved characters.”

The first of the two films will kick off during the Christmas season in 2024 and the second following in 2025 during the Christmas season.

Not at all sure about this. Thoughts?
