Halle Bailey Lands On Variety’s Power Of Young Hollywood List

Halle Bailey is one of Variety’s Power Of Young Hollywood cover stars! The young singer/actress was chosen for her upcoming role in Disney’s live action, The Little Mermaid. Highlights from her interview are below.

On what she loved about her character Ariel: “Her sense of longing, her searching for herself, was something that I could resonate with. She knew where she wanted to go, and she wasn’t going to let anybody stop her.”

On the importance of taking on the role of Ariel: “I want the little girl in me and the little girls just like me who are watching to know that they’re special, and that they should be a princess in every single way. There’s no reason that they shouldn’t be. That reassurance was something that I needed.”

On playing Nettie in the film adaptation of The Color Purple: “We’re both the younger sister, we’re both the headstrong one and we speak up, and we’re very, very protective of our older sister. It was so cool to play this character where she had all of these pieces of me, but I think she’s a bit more sure of herself.”
