KJ Apa Is Given The Chiefly Savae Title In Samoan Ceremony

KJ Apa received quite the honor today, September 1, in Samoa. The actor was bestowed the chiefly Savae title by the chiefs of his village of Moata’a.

During the ceremony, KJ recited “O le a ou tautua – I will serve,” during “…his testimony to his village and his family as he accepted his Ava, his seat in the village council and his family, and the numerous responsibilities that come with a holder of the Savae title.”

KJ, whose father is a Samoan chief as well, grew up in Samoa before moving to New Zealand. He had previously spoken about his father’s title, but had not spoken too much about whether or not he would take on the title himself.

Congrats to KJ!
