Yara Shahidi Covers The Digital Issue Of PEOPLE

Yara Shahidi is on the digital cover of the newest issue of PEOPLE. The young actress is on the cover to promote her new Disney+ film, Peter Pan & Wendy. Highlights from her interview are below.

On choosing to play Tinker Bell in the upcoming streaming film, “Tinker Bell was just a no-brainer. It’s such an iconic part. The character has a long lineage of really incredible actresses playing her. I think she is one of the first Tinker Bells that kind of strays from what we imagine as the animated version. It was fun to look back and watch the OG movie and her performance.”

On the importance of her former show, black-ish: “The conversations on the show were so in alignment with the conversations we were having in our household, of growing up as a young Black kid and all the hilarity and specific pressures that come with that.”

On opportunities: “There’s so many opportunities that come my way, and I’m grateful for the abundance. It feels silly at times to turn away things that are objectively good, but I realized that because I wasn’t turning things down, I was overextending myself. I think the next step for me personally has been about focusing less on the destination, and trying to figure out how to make the journey as enjoyable as possible.”
