Review: Catch A Break At The Lodge: A Paramount+ Experience At San Diego Comic Con
Paramount+ is bringing The Paramount Plus Lodge to San Diego Comic Con this weekend. This new offsite experience from the streaming site features a number of activations centered around some of their hit projects, including Yellowjackets, 1923, and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Ahead of the activation’s grand opening tonight, July 19, BB got the chance to wander through the lodge and try out some of its activations.
With over 10 activations to check out, it was a little overwhelming to decide where exactly to start. When you first enter, you are greeted with a photo op in the Krusty Krab from SpongeBob SqaurePants. As you make your way around the outside portion of the lodge, you get the chance to learn more about the streaming platform’s new series, Special Ops: Lioness and have a little fun stepping onto the “set” of Yellowjackets. If that wasn’t enough, waiters and waitresses dressed as employees of everyone’s favorite restaurant, Good Burger , passed out burgers to keep us fed as we made are way through the experience. A quick note, as a part of entrance into the experience, we were presented with drink tickets and a ticket for a “Good Burger”. So do not forget to hand over your “Good Burger” ticket, if you are lucky enough to gain entry to the experience.
After exploring the outside of the experience, we headed inside to see what else Paramount has in store for us. There we found photo opportunities around every corner, including a to die for op themed around Pet Sematary. Along with the photos ops, we got the chance to check out the Ink Master tattoos activation, as well as the Stark Trek caricature artists, who runed attendees into their favorite Star Trek character. The last activation we got to experience was the 1923 themed speakeasy. Here we sipped on a delicious cocktail as we had our photo taken on our 1923 front porch.
Overall, this experience was a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Comic Con. It was fun, well themed, and it fit the overall vibes of San Diego Comic Con. However, here were a couple of downsides. Getting people in and out of the experience might prove a bit difficult because once you are in, you won’t want to leave. Also, there isn’t a lot of room to move around in the experience, so waiting in line for activations or just simply trying to enjoy your goodies could end up making you feel like you are back on the convention floor.
Here’s hoping Paramount+ has these items figured out because The Lodge is definitely worth checking out. The activation is first come, first serve and it will be open Thursday – Saturday: 12 p.m. – 10 p.m and on Sunday: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. over at Happy Days Bar in the Gaslamp district.
