Zac Efron and Charles Melton Make W Magazine’s ‘Best Performances 2024’ Issue
Zac Efron and Charles Melton are among the stars featured in W Magazine’s “Best Performances 2024” issue. The two made the issue for their performances in The Iron Claw (Efron) and May December (Melton).
During Efron’s chat with the magazine, he talked wrestling, his first kiss, and his first acting job, while during Melton’s interview he talked gaining weight for the movie, his go-to karaoke song, and Halloween. Highlights from both interviews can be found below.
Efron on if his dance backrgound helped with wrestling: “Dancing and wrestling are surprisingly similar. There’s a choreographed element to both, and the more you do it, the better you get. Also, just the sense of moving with a partner: Sometimes you lead, and sometimes you’re holding on to the other guy. The learning curve for wrestling is you just go for it. For stuff like climbing up on the ropes and jumping off, you’ve just got to nut up and go for it. There’s no real practicing.”
Melton on gaining weight for the film: “The director, Todd Haynes, and I talked about what Joe would feel like, and it gave me an open opportunity to eat whatever I wanted! Joe has this softness to him. I ate a lot of favorite childhood snacks like Gushers, Fruit Roll-Ups, ice cream, pizza with popcorn on it. It was great.”

Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Lily Gladstone, Colman Domingo, Nicolas Cage, Greta Lee, Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore, Jodie Foster, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph were the other stars who made this year’s list. I had a good laugh when Efron was talking about his parents not allowing him and his brother to watch wrestling! My parents did the same thing when I was growing up. I still watched it, and eventually they caved, but in the beginning I was told to turn it off a lot.
