Maia Mitchell is on the cover of ELLE Australia. The actress is on the cover of the digital issue of the magazine to promote the series finale of Good Trouble. Highlights from her interview are below.
On returning back to Australia for her mental health: “I’d been in a relationship for seven years that ended, [work] was pretty all-consuming, and I was never alone. [My] whole world was centred around the industry. … Going from that to living out in the bush, just being alone and really separated from the industry, was a really good thing for the old mental health. You have to undo those tethers and be okay with stepping away.”
On being intimated to take on the role of Lady Belle in the series, The Artful Dodger : “She’s so forthright and she’s got such a high sense of social justice, and this massive entitlement that can only really be born from the level of privilege she has. She has this real dichotomy between a really strong moral competence and a really good heart, while also being so ballsy — especially for a woman at the time.”
On how lucky she is: “It’s a pinch-me moment every time I land in LA, every time I see the Hollywood sign or get an audition and there’s someone amazing attached. There are a lot of really hard-working, very talented actors who haven’t gotten a break, so I feel really lucky that I get to do what I’m doing.”
