REVIEW: Adult Swim’s Pirate Parrrty Comes to San Diego Comic-Con
BeautifulBallad got the chance to check out Adult Swim’s Pirate Parrrty last night, July 24 in San Diego, CA. The event is being held as an offsite activation during San Diego Comic-Con.
Located outside of the San Diego Convention Center, and in front of the Hilton Bayfront, the activation featured a variety of games, activities, and photo ops . Some of the most notable activities at the event were the “Shipwreck Slide” and the sneak peek look at Adult Swim’s new series, Common Side Effects. Heads up on this activity, it does use flashing video and lights, so it may be triggering to some.
The photo ops included a chance to ride one of the dinosaur’s from Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal and with the characters from Royal Crackers. The event will also play full episodes on the big screen throughout the four day paarty, feature a late night DJ, and on Friday, July 26, AEW Wrestling will take over the event with a wrestling match.
Overall, the activation was good, but incomplete. There were still a number of things being built or activities that were closed as they awaited the activation’s official opening tomorrow. There were no episodes playing on the big screen nor was the DJ present. The games, however, were mostly finished, but no prizes were being handed out if you won the game. We will have to see what tomorrow brings in regards to prizes, but it was a little disappointing to win a game and not receive a prize.
If you have some time this weekend, and the line is not too long, give this activation a try. The slide, which was our favorite, is worth the visit.
