‘Only Murders In The Building’ Continues The Charm With Season Four
Only Murders In the Building has finally returned for its fourth season, and it it quite the wild time. The season opens with our favorite trio needing a murder. With the closing of Oliver’s show, Mabel homeless, and Charlie still on the search for his friend, Sazz Pataki (Jane Lynch), the trio could use a little murder to get them and their podcast back on its feet. However, Hollywood comes a calling for our trio when a producer (Molly Shannon) reaches out to have their podcast turned into a movie. Traveling to Los Angeles, to hear the big pitch, our favorite characters find themselves with a bit of an identity crisis when they are introduced to the A- list stars (Eva Longoria, Eugene Levy, and Zach Galifianakis) playing them in the movie. And if that wasn’t enough, the murder that have desparetely wanting has finally come a calling, and it might just be too close to home for one of them.
If you enjoyed the last three seasons of this show then you will enjoy this season. With seven episodes given to press, each episode does a great job of showcasing what so many have loved about this series over the years, a perfect trio of actors (Short, Martin, and Gomez) with undeniable comedic chemistry. These three actors once again prove that charm and comedy can go hand and hand. And with three seasons already under their belts, their chemistry continues to soar, which allows for an even better end product then seasons before.
That being said, it does feel like viewers got less time with the trio compared to previous seasons. With a slew of famous actors coming in and out of each episode, scenes where is it just Oliver, Charlie, and Mabel are pushed to the back burner to make time for these new additions. It doesn’t necessarily takeaway from the season, especially because viewers get delightfully funny scenes between Levy and Martin, but it does take away some of the charm that made this series what it was, which is the chemistry between our three leads.
As for those new famous additions, Eugene Levy is a standout, along with Molly Shannon. Levy’s talents, mixed with Martin and Short’s can only be described as comedic perfection. And Shannon’s natural ability to take any scene, even the most mundane, and shape it into a laugh out loud moment, is something not seen much from actors anymore.
Season four of Only Murders In The Building is another easy watching, good time at home viewing. With moments of suspense, mixed in with a variety of laugh out loud moments, it doesn’t disappoint.
